We did it! I want to thank everyone for their courage and dedication they have shown over the past three months, as we quickly shifted to an online learning classroom. I am really thankful for the time we got to spend together, even if it was on a computer. You have all worked so hard and grown so much as learners! I am one proud teacher. Have a wonderful summer break, full of rest and adventures and I look forward to seeing you all in the fall!

Onomatopoeia Art
Over the last two weeks in Language Arts, we have been working on developing technical tools for our writer's toolbox. We have learned about similes, using triple scoop words to add a variety of words to our "writer's palette," personification and onomatopoeia. We have done many lessons and activities around these concepts. Below are pictures from today's lesson on Onomatopoeia.

My Mouth is a Volcano
Today is class, we read this book together and discussed the importance of listening carefully and waiting for an appropriate time to share thoughts or ideas in a group setting. Students then created a volcano in their visual journal. Inside the volcano were 5 strategies that could support students to wait patiently for their turn to talk, while the lava represented the reasons that would be appropriate to interrupt a conversation. Below you will see a few examples. We all have such amazing things to share and making sure everyone is heard and feels respected is our ultimate goal.

Animation Residency
Animation Residency Process
We watched an animation. |
We learned how to make a ball bounce using stop motion animation. This technique is called " Squash and Stretch." |
We had to draw and colour one tall ball ( stretch), one wide ball ( squash) and one normal-sized ball in order to create our animation. |
At the end of the session, we got to make our own animation. We had to make a background, characters and props. |
I loved it! It was awesome! - KS
" It was awesome. I want it to happen every day." - SC
" I really like making our own animations." - JM
" I really liked making the setting and the characters. I liked working with my partner because when we had ideas it was better when we put them together." - JB
" It was so fun! I would rather do animation than recess!" JH
" I liked how it started out as a drawing and then we made it come to life." RL
" I really liked it. I had a lot of fun filming the characters." KC
