Bat Wraps

On Friday, members of our student council presented their fundraising plans to the class. We learned that they have been brainstorming ways to support the animals affected by the Australian forest fires. Today, we were asked to help out by determining the amount of fabric that would be needed to make 20 bat wraps. Bat wraps simulate mothers' wings and are used by caregivers to wrap injured or orphaned bats so they will feel safe. Our question: How many metres of fabric will we need to make 20 bat wraps?
Measurements:  25 cm ( width)  x 120 cm ( length) for each wrap

Below you will see the work students completed in order to solve this problem. It was amazing to watch everyone dig in and work as a group to find the answer.

We will need 5m of fabric to make our bat wraps. The next step will be to determine the price of the fabric.

Working together to determine the amount of fabric needed.

Doubling Stategy

I can use the doubling strategy to help me learn my basic facts. I can use doubles and doubling to multiply mentally. If 2 x 3 = 6, then 4 x 3 =12.

Cross Country Skiing Day #2

Today we learned how to go uphill and downhill safely. You have to bend your knees and hold your tray of cookies when going down. At the bottom of the hill, you put your legs in the pizza position to stop. To go uphill, you have to make sure your skis are like french fries and make your way uphill sideways. Make sure you bend your knees!

Activities: We got to use a special rope to tow our friends like reindeer pulling their sleigh.

Game: Red Light Green Light
